For the past year, Professors Vic Murray and Yvonne Harrison have been carrying out research on how members of nonprofit organization boards, and those who connect to them, perceive their effectiveness. Using a specially designed online survey (www.boardcheckup.com), over 300 participants from over 50 organizations in Canada and the U.S. have revealed what they see as the biggest challenges affecting the board’s value and impact. In this workshop, you will:
- Explore the following top 5 challenges facing nonprofit boards:
* The board’s role in fund raising
* The board’s role in planning
* Finding and developing outstanding board members
* The board’s effectiveness in assessing organization performance
* Building a positive board culture
- Learn how others have overcome these challenges
- Share your experiences and ideas in dealing with them
Vic Murray is Adjunct Professor in the School of Public Administration, University of Victoria and Professor Emeritus, Schulich School of Business, York University. He is a well known author, researcher and consultant on nonprofit organization governance, strategic planning and performance evaluation.
Cost: $140 + HST; Each additional participant from the same organization will receive a $15 discount, as will those who register for more than one workshop. Student rate available. Refreshments, tea and coffee served, but lunch not included.
